Rando Nando

Hey! We have internet now so time to update the blog. To be honest, we've had internet for about a week now, I'll make sure to update more regularly for now on.

So one of Savi's nicknames from her family is Nanna, which is occasionally just Nan, which sometimes gets turned into Nando. So yup.

A couple of weeks back now, we went to this cool old antique mall. It really is about as big as a small shopping mall. Tons of cool stuff to look at.

You may recognize this lamp from its breakout role as Lamp from our apartment tour.

We went to an "Indian and American" grocery store and got some hot sauce and grits! Unfortunately, the grits had moths in them. I'm sure they were sitting on the shelf for months. Anyway, it's all ok because my Dad is sending us some in the mail!

Single serve soy sauce comes in little fish packaging. Pretty neat. Also, that sentence sounds like it is from a language leaning book.

I dunno. I thought this was funny. I was looking through this file cabinet to see if anyone was using it.

Here's Savi.

Here's is a picture of this old radio at a second-hand store. I have no clue what all of these dials mean.

And here is a short clip of a Simocephalus. I went out to a pond to collect some Daphnia to practice handling before the specific Daphnia I'll be working with come in. It turns out that I collected these guys instead of Daphnia. They are in the same family, just a different genus. They look almost identical to Daphnia, but still very different.

September Beach

Yesterday I went to the bay. It was cloudy and chilly.
I made a video about it.

Apartment tour!

You asked for a video of the apartment. Well...here you go...

The video is silly, but we are really thankful for all of the Go Fund Me money. Just about everything but the stove and Savi's computer was purchased with that money, so it really helped out a lot. We made a normal cut of this video, but it was boring. We decided to make it interesting, but things got out of hand quickly. Sorry.

I went to the park this morning

Hi its Savi!

This morning I went to the park. It was so pretty outside I couldn't resist!
It was so sunny and there was still dew on the grass.
I found this beautiful tree! It was so tall and the top of it sticks out every which way. The name of the tree was posted on its truck. I forgot to take a picture though. :( ...still beautiful though. :)
The bottom-most branches made a wall around the trunk that you can climb inside the light shining through the branches was gorgeous!

This rosemary bush was blooming. It smelled so nice, and there were bugs lovin' all over it.

I love how white and smooth gum trees are.
There's so many different types, too! Rainbow gum, ribbon gum, spotted gum..and so on

This is a ribbon gum, I think.
The bark is redish brown and appears to be breaking away from the trunk in strips. When I looked inside the bark the tree was oozing red sap. It looks like sugar to me.

I also found a tree that was covered in the prettiest spiderwebs. I found a whole cluster of them in one spot of the tree, but I couldn't find a single spider. Haha
.nobodies home.

Then at the furthest part of where the webs were I found this little guy in the center of a tiny web. Are all these webs yours, buddy?

Update for the last few days!

Hello! Sorry we haven't updated much! Savi and I still don't have internet at the apartment and probably wont for a little while. Any, here are a few random pictures:

Savi and I about to take the train to Ikea. Ahh, those were the good days. The days of youthful ignorance and its associated bliss. We were so wide-eyed and optimistic. Surely, our experience at Ikea would be a positive, if not an ordinary one. Just another day. Surely not the type of event that one remembers all other events as pre or post. "Well before the storm . . .", "After the moon landing . . ." Surely not.

Anyway, we ordered our furniture and waited for it to delivered the next day.

Meanwhile, I went to Monash to get all of my paperwork in order. I got my ID card! Woo.

Fast forward several days. We have furniture and a fridge! This means groceries!

And beer! Cheap beer though. Savi and I have been sampling the more affordable options, but even those are $16 for a 6-pack.

This is Dino Quixote. He is a gift from my buddy Jake. Jake gave us Dino Quixote to keep us safe. He is an essential part of the apartment.

First day of school! This is the free shuttle pulling up the the Caulfield campus (the one we live near) that brings me to the Clayton campus (the one I work at).

I'm not sure what this guy's name is, but I call him Nega-Parlton. He's very testy. It is almost as if his owner didn't take the time to figure out that he prefers purple to green grapes and Creole tomatoes to any other thing the grocery wants to call a "tomato." Anyway, this guy lives in one of the Bio buildings.

Door to my (shared) office! Look at that "staff only." Thats me. I can go in here.

My desk! I'm leaving the old monitor there to reserve the space that I'm not using yet.

Well thanks for reading the blog! Savi and I have just about completely settled into our apartment so I think we're going to make a video tour and post it this weekend.
